What’s Your Dream Job?
What job or way of making a living do you fantasize about?
What would you LOVE to be doing for your income that you’re not doing? Maybe you don’t fantasize about it because you’re already living it. Some people already live their dream.
Working a regular job day after day can drain a person’s soul. Even if you’re making “good money” and “benefits,” it can be a trap. You could feel like you can’t “afford” to quit.
I’ve had jobs in which I had to ask twelve months in advance for time off for Christmas! In one job I was only allowed three days to get married and have a honeymoon. It felt like being in jail. No fun.
Most jobs are better than that.
Millions of people are wasting their talents and time in jobs they don’t love. As Kary Oberbrunner says, “They feel trapped and dissatisfied, afraid to risk their financial security to pursue their dreams. But anyone can make the leap from day job to dream job–with the right amount of knowledge, encouragement, and guts.”
Having a dream job is about more than just about doing something that allows you to set your own schedule. It’s about who you are in the process. It’s about your meaning and purpose.
A true dream job is a platform for you to fulfill your talents, gifts, and abilities in a way that meets needs in others and creates a great income for you, too.
- Use your talents, gifts and abilities to help others,
- Create a great income,
- Give you flexibility in your schedule to work when you like, and,
- Give you the flexibility to work from anywhere you like.
Did I miss anything? What would you add to the list?
In essence, it gives you the control to do what you want, when you want, with whom you want.
It’s almost too hard for a lot of people to imagine. To them, it doesn’t seem possible. But, it is!
Many, many others have taken hobbies, special interests, abilities, and passions and turned them into six figure annual incomes. Some of them passive income.
Passive income would be nice. Right? If you have a base of passive income and don’t have to keep punching a clock, you’d have more time to do what you want.
It all starts with having a good idea of what your dream job would be. What are your ideas?
If you’re clear about that then you’re half done! Next is to create a plan to monetize it and leverage it. The hardest part for most people after that is to get through the obstacles that come up on the path to success.
Obstacles such as emotions of fear, beliefs of doubt, other people’s discouragement, learning curves with technology, and new concepts. Moving through those obstacles is key.
If you’re not clear about what your dream job would be, it’s time to take inventory. Think back on your life to a time or times when you were truly feeling alive. What was going on? What were you doing?
Take a look at hobbies you’ve been interested in, natural abilities of yours. Do an online interest inventory. Take a personality test a kiersey.com or do the VIA Character Strengths Inventory at http://www.viacharacter.org/www/.
Another good step is to ask people who know you well what they think your strengths and interests are. Parents, siblings, friends and others may have some key insights.
If you’re struggling with your day job day after day going nowhere fast, may I make a suggestion?
There’s a way to get out of your day job and into your dream job—AND live the life you really want to live.
No, it doesn’t have to be hard. It’s a natural set of principles and strategy. Thousands of people have done it.
In fact, you can start the process today if you’re ready.
