How to Be More Confident
More Confidence Would Sure Be Nice!
“If I only had more confidence, I’d be able to make an ‘A’ in my class.” Christina was a 17 year old high school senior struggling to make better grades.
She assumed that other students were excelling at school because they were so confident. It only made sense to her that if she could be more confident, she would be more successful.
Sound familiar? How many times have I heard that from clients much older than Christina?
What she didn’t realize was that she had the cart and horse switched.
Lack of confidence holds too many of us back from being decisive and moving forward toward making worthwhile changes in our lives. It becomes an excuse to wallow in mediocrity and circle a really big drain in life.
Pain is inevitable, misery is a choice. Share on XThe truth is that confidence is a byproduct, not a cause. Confidence doesn’t make a person successful. Success creates confidence.
Clarity + Competence allows for the presence of confidence. Once you have the confidence it can propel you onto greater success in having Influence, Impact, and Income.
Lacking confidence can be a miserable state to be in on your journey toward success. Pain is inevitable, misery is a choice.
Here are 5 steps you can take now to have more confidence in your life now…
How to Be More Confident
Start With Intention:
Affirm that you’re already confident with intention statements and affirmation. Stop thinking you need a reason or some condition has to be met first. Create an affirmation or intention statement such as, “I am confident,” or, “I have all the confidence I need.” Repeat the phrase over and over with sincerity.
Well-worded affirmations and intention statements are powerful tools to reprogram your mind. Read more about how your intention can reprogram your mind in a previous blog post I wrote called, “Pink Elephants and White Tigers; Three Secrets of How Your Mind Works.”
Be Congruent With The Real You:
Rather than trying to pretend you’re someone or something you’re not, start with who you already are. Build from the bedrock of truth. Confidence is a by product of your belief, it’s not a special ingredient to make you who you want to be.
When you’re in alignment with truth you don’t have to talk yourself into anything.
Improve Your Skill and Competence Level:
Do whatever it takes to improve your skill and ability in any area you’d like to have more confidence. Get coaching, practice, use mental rehearsal, take classes.
It takes training and practice to become competent. It’s easy. The more you ride a bike the better you become.
Take Action:
Take any action that moves you more closely to the confidence you seek. Be active rather than passive.
Daily ask the question, “What step can I take today to move me closer to the confidence I seek?” Take action to shift any blocking beliefs in the way of a belief that you are confident and competent.
Keep a collection of supportive, positive, encouraging people around you:
Move anyone in your life who is discouraging or takes energy farther away from your intimacy zone. If possible, remove them from your sphere of influence. There are people in life who’s personality is naturally encouraging.
Seek out your encouragers regularly to keep your tank full. If you hang around negativity you’ll feel negative. If you hang around positive, encouraging people you’ll feel positive.
Clarity + Competence allows for the presence of confidence. Share on XYou don’t need to be confident to succeed. There are a lot of mediocre people who are very confident. There are a lot of insecure successful people. Being confident sure feels better than lacking confidence, though.
