7 Effective Ways To Increase Your Motivation Quickly

Moving forward in pursuing your goal is easy and fun when the motivation is high…

…But, after a while you can get bogged down by the stress of the passage of time, tiredness, and internal and external resistance.

When your energy and motivation gets low, it’s tempting to get frustrated and want to give up. Not to mention feeling stressed, anxious, and depressed. Been there!

Here’s 7 Effective Ways To Increase Your Motivation Quickly.

And, by quickly, I mean usually in less than 3 minutes.

If one doesn’t work for you, try another, or a combination.

Get that motivation going again and take some turf.

Here they are.

  1. Re-clarify your vision.
Re-clarifying assumes you clarified it in the first place. If you skipped that step, stop everything and do it now.
If you have already clarified it, review what you’ve written down. Re-write anything that can be clarified to a sharper point. Add anything that’s missing and remove anything that isn’t right. Need help? There’s a free PDF in the right margin called, “The Personal Vision Statement Worksheet,” that will guide you through this profound process.
  2. Remind yourself why you’re doing this.
Remember what your “WHY” is. What’s the payoff. What’s the piece that will resonate with your soul when you get where you’re going? This could be predetermined by a well worded purpose statement. If that too is a step you skipped, take some time to be clear about why your pursuing this goal and doing what you’re doing. Someone once said, “Those who know what will always work for those who know why.” (Unknown).
  3. Double check to make sure it’s who you are and what you want.
If what you’re striving toward resonates with the core of your values and heart, you’ll always find a gear to get you through anything. It’ll help pull you through any obstacle.
  4. Visualize yourself taking the next step with high energy and desire.
Mental rehearsal is one of the most powerful techniques for programming your mindset and response set. All of the Olympic and professional athletes use it. Every professional musician I’ve every met uses it, even though they didn’t know what it was called.
  5. Identify and shift out of any negative thoughts, beliefs, or emotions.
Negative thoughts and beliefs will create negative emotions. Positive thoughts and beliefs will create positive emotions. Changing your beliefs and emotions isn’t as hard as you might think if you do it correctly. You can learn more about how to do this in a previous blog post called, “Use Your Imagination To Overcome Fear of Failure.”
  6. Find a motivation buddy.
Find a friend, someone who has similar interests, or a coach who knows you and can effectively light your soul on fire when your flame gets low. Call them up. Some call this a “force multiplier.”The power of group encouragement is formidable.
  7. Create a letter, video, or audio to your future self.
Play it or read it when your motivation gets close to the bottom. You know you. When you’re in a relatively good space, write or record a message to yourself addressing any issues that you know you’ll need to hear when you’re there. Yes. It really works.

Rinse and repeat until your energy comes back up.

When your energy is low, you feel discouraged and like giving up, read, listen, or watch over and over.

If one of these doesn’t work as hoped, try another and another. Try them in combinations.
